Very interesting. This is to me one of the major lessons of the pandemic - which continues, of course, to be almost totally unacknowledged. That it wasn't, actually, a good idea to just turn over public policy to epidemiologists who knew their discipline but weren't trained to think about the consequences. It's a real lesson in why it's important for power to be retained by politicians who are accountable through a democratic process.

It was criminal to allow people to die alone and mothers to give birth alone. There were many alternatives to this insanity available. These policies were evil. I can’t imagine if my mother who died several years earlier of old age had died alone. Not just for her sake but for mine. I don’t think I would have ever gotten over her death.
